Weekly Run Information

The formal run sessions that Netley Abbey Runners hosts are designed to support runners of all abilities (once they can run 5k) and are split between social runs and formal training.  We have an all inclusive policy so regardless of the session, there will typically always be a run leader at the rear of the group to ensure no-one is left behind.

If you can not run 5k yet, we offer Couch to 5k Courses throughout the year to get you to that standard so keep an eye out below.

A rough outline of our weekly sessions is below - Please check the 8 week schedule or the calendar section of the web page for more specific information.

Formal Club Runs (Lead by Run Leaders):

Tuesday Evenings (7.30pm) - Meet at Abbey Hall (See details below) - Longer Runs

We meet at Abbey Hall and split into groups according to pace and ability. An example of a typical Tuesday would be:

Group A - Run 10-12k at a faster pace (5:30/km or faster)

Group B - Run 10k at a slower pace (slower than 5:30/km)

Group C - Run 6-8k at a slower pace

These sessions may be adapted depending on who is present and the needs that arise.

Every few weeks, alternative sessions may be offered, for example Fartlek Sessions, Magic Mile.

Couch to 5k Course

These are run at set periods throughout the year  and are usually on a Tuesday - The next course is scheduled to begin on 15th January 2019 at 7.30pm.

This is a 9 week course to take you from complete beginner to being able to run 5k, culminating in a graduating park run at Netley Abbey Park Run.  The cost and joining instructions will be confirmed nearer the time.

Wednesday Evenings (7.30pm) - Meet at Abbey Hall (See details below) - Shorter Runs

We meet at Abbey Hall and split into groups according to pace and ability. An example of a typical Tuesday would be:

Group A - Run 5-6k at a faster pace (6/km or faster)

Group B - Run 5-6k at a slower pace (Slower than 6/km)

These sessions may be adapted depending on who is present and the needs that arise.

This session is typically run around the Netley and Weston Shore areas.  The sessions are usually run on pavement, but can move onto local trails in the Summer.

Thursday Evenings (7.30pm) - Meeting points vary (please see the calendar)

This is the club training session.  It is designed to improve the speed, strength and conditioning of the runners.  These evenings are deliberately varied and include a mixture of hills, endurance and track work.  These sessions are deliberately designed to challenge the individual regardless of ability and improve running capability over time.  This session is designed and run by our club coach.

Book onto one of our sessions through the Run Together website

{Please note that safety is a primary concern for all formal club runs.  Therefore, please take note of any special instructions the run leader gives at the start of the session.  If you have a niggle, or a condition that you think may affect your abilities, please advise the run leader at the start of the session.  When running at night, please ensure as a minimum that high visibility clothing or accessories are worn on the sessions.  A head/body torch is also strongly advised. }
